Responsibilities:
 
As an Autonomy Engineer with MTSI, you will work with AFWERX, the center of innovation for the Air Force, identifying, acquiring, and testing innovative capabilities. You will help develop and test leading-edge autonomous UAS programs within AFWERX to provide critical national defense capabilities.

Your essential job functions will include but may not be limited to:

  • Work with leading-edge autonomous UAS companies and government organizations to provide critical national solutions for the DoD.
  • Research, evaluate, and guide selection of appropriate avionics components for autonomous UAS platforms, including flight controllers, Inertial Measurement Units, GPS/GNSS modules, altimeters, magnetometers, air data systems, and power management units.
  • Analyze, and interpret test data (telemetry logs, sensor readings) to identify issues, validate performance against requirements, and inform design iterations.
  • Actively participate in Integrated Product Team (IPT) meetings, design reviews, and technical discussions, representing the avionics domain.
  • Apply knowledge of relevant industry standards and best practices for autonomous systems, avionics design, testing, and manufacturing.

Qualifications Required:
  • 10+ total years of acquisition experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in UAS or Avionics System Design & Architecture development or equivalent. 
  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills, strong analytical skills, organizational and workload management, and interpersonal skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in aeronautical or aerospace engineering or another related engineering discipline.
  • A master’s degree in a business, engineering, avionics, or similar technical field, or a total of 22+ years of acquisition experience.
 
Highly Desirable Skills:
  • Experience with flight control systems, navigation systems (GPS/INS), and sensor fusion.
  • Experience with circuit design, digital/analog electronics, and power electronics.
  • Familiarity with common UAS architectures (Pixhawk, ArduPilot, PX4, DJI A3/N3, etc.).
  • Experience with autonomous UAS aircraft.
  • Master’s Degree or other education and training in avionics, electrical systems, and Guidance Navigation and Control (GNC).
 
Clearance Requirements:
  • TS clearance with SCI eligibility is required. 
 
ADDITIONAL NOTES:
  • This is currently a hybrid position, requiring regular attendance in offices at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. At any time, the customer can require 100% on-site attendance.

Travel up to 25% will be required to government and industry locations.
