Modern Technology Solutions, Inc. (MTSI) is seeking a Linux Engineer who will design networks, data products, innovative techniques, processes, or programs that enhance functional area management and provide for increased organization of Information Technology processes supporting the Air Force Research Lab.

How you will contribute to our National Security and Defense mission:
As a Linux Engineer with MTSI, you will be responsible for designing networks, data products, innovative techniques, processes, or programs that enhance functional area management and provide for increased organization of Information Technology processes supporting the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL). You will sit in the AFRL customer facility and be an integral part of a combined government/contractor team developing and demonstrating cutting-edge avionics capabilities for the U.S. Air Force.

Responsibilities:
Your essential job functions will include but may not be limited to:
  • Design networks, data products, innovative techniques, processes, or programs that enhance functional area management and provide for increased organization of Information Technology processes. 
  • Develop plans to enhance operational use of systems and hardware and software and keep abreast of technological advances to ensure continued optimum service.  
  • Survey network operations to identify and anticipate potential problems, which could lead to loss, serious interruption or compromise of system availability.
  • Work with the cyber team to implement a formal Information Systems Security Plan while also enforcing information System Security policies.
  • Provide proactive consultation and instruction with system users to ensure seamless implementation of changes and possess proven written and verbal communication skills.
  • Work with the cyber team to implement formal Information Systems Security policies.
  • Provide top-tier troubleshooting and optimization skills regarding the functionality and performance of the hardware and software systems to ensure availability, integrity, efficiency, and reliability of servers are kept at a premium. 
  • Analyze and diagnose system failures to isolate source of problems, perform testing, troubleshoot, and correct complex problems involving interface and interoperability of system components such as hardware, systems software, and applications programs while providing recommendations for acquisition of equipment, software and/or hardware, which will resolve operational problems.  
  • Oversee the installation and configuration of the establishment of user environments.
  • Develop standard procedures for account establishment, system maintenance, and system recovery. 
  • Contractor shall perform on-site setup and configuration management control of Linux-based cluster computers.
  • Apply innovative techniques and seasoned judgement to assist management in identifying areas where IT systems can reduce or eliminate labor and time-intensive manual processes.

Qualifications Required:
  • Active DoD Top Secret Clearance with ability to obtain a TS/SCI clearance
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience administering Microsoft and Linux Servers
  • PL3/PL4 System Experience
  • Experience with:
  • Networking and COMSEC
  • Data Center/Enterprise Visualization Configuration and Control (VMWare, VSphere, Cisco, (UCS, FlexPods))
  • Networking (e.g. Firewalls, VLANs, VPNs, NIC Bonding, COMSEC)
  • Storage Area Networking (NetApp, JBOD/RAID)
  • Linux Imaging (e.g. Ansible, KickStarts, PXE-booting)
  • Linux Software Management (e.g. Modules, STIG Compliance/OpenSCAP, yum, rpm)
  • Windows/other cross platform development skills (e.g. Active Directory, DDNS, DHCP, Authentication (Maria PAM), batch, PowerShell)
 
Education:
·        Minimum Bachelor's degree in computer science or electrical engineering and an active Security+ Certification (per DoD Directive 8570)
 
Even better if you have these desired skills:
  • 10+ years' experience administering MS and Linux Servers
 
Clearance Requirements:
Active DoD Top Secret Clearance with ability to obtain a TS/SCI clearance
