SENIOR SPACE CONTROL EXPERT - 1133910304387
El Segundo, CaliforniaModern Technology Solutions, Inc. (MTSI) is a 100% employee-owned engineering services and solutions company that provides high-demand technical expertise in Digital Transformation, Modeling and Simulation, Rapid Capability Development, Test and Evaluation, Artificial Intelligence, Autonomy, Cybersecurity and Mission Assurance.
Overview
Modern Technology Solutions, Inc. (MTSI) is seeking a Sr Space Control Expert with deep experience in highly classified space control mission areas spanning space, ground, and command-and-control (C2) systems. This position supports a U.S. Space Force (USSF) program office engaged in the development, maturation, testing, and transition of advanced space control capabilities across multiple technology domains. Work will be performed in a secure government environment supporting sensitive and highly responsive programs.
Responsibilities
As a Sr Space Control Expert, you will provide advanced technical expertise to guide concept development, system design, technology maturation, and test activities across space and ground mission areas. You will assess capability gaps, evaluate technology readiness, and support the government’s decisions on future architectures, programs of record, and rapid prototyping initiatives. This position requires working with cross-functional engineering, acquisition, test, and operations teams to enable the delivery of operationally effective, sustainable, and survivable space control systems. You will regularly communicate complex technical findings to senior government leadership and advise on risk, schedule, and performance implications for highly classified mission sets.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Serve as the technical expert for space control space, ground, and C2 system concepts, development, build, and test activities.
- Provide expert assessment and guidance on maturing technologies across all Technology Readiness Levels (TRLs), from early R&D through operational deployment.
- Conduct trade studies and technical evaluations across multiple space-control-related technologies, including optical systems, electronic support capabilities, signal processing, communications, and related mission areas.
- Provide input to government customers on risks affecting performance, schedule, budget, or contractor execution.
- Support development and interpretation of system requirements, architecture decisions, and mission-level performance assessments.
- Participate in military, government, and FFRDC meetings, representing technical insights on space control capabilities.
- Develop and review technical documentation, transfer materials, MOAs/MOUs, and acquisition artifacts as required.
- Support senior leadership meetings, prepare technical briefings, and clearly communicate complex analyses using MS Office tools.
- Coordinate with diverse stakeholders—including engineering, security, test, finance, and contracting teams—to ensure technical alignment throughout the lifecycle of space control programs.
Qualifications
- Expert-level knowledge of highly classified space control space, ground, and C2 systems.
- Demonstrated expertise in maturing technologies through all TRL levels.
- Experience across multiple space-control-related technologies, including optical, electronic support, signal processing, and communications systems.
- Experience supporting DoD or IC program offices and working in SAPF/SCIF environments.
- Ability to assess system-level impacts, identify risks, and provide strategic technical recommendations.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical data to senior decision-makers.
Desired Requirements:
- Prior experience as SETA or advisor to government program offices.
- Experience in rapid prototyping, advanced technology development, and transition to operations.
- Knowledge of DoD acquisition processes, SOW/PWS development, and program documentation.
- Familiarity with integrated space, air, and cyberspace capability development.
- Experience with ACAT I/II or highly classified special access programs.
Education Requirements:
- MA/MS degree required.
- Tradeoff: A Bachelor’s degree is acceptable if the candidate possesses at least 12 years of experience in this type of position or program.
- The Materiel Leader may waive the MA/MS requirement based on experience and mission needs.
- Degree should be in an engineering, physics, or related technical discipline from an accredited program.
Clearance Requirements:
- Active TOP SECRET clearance with SCI eligibility.
- Must be willing to work within SAP environments as required.
- Must maintain TS/SCI eligibility as a condition of employment and be willing to submit to a Counter-Intelligence polygraph.
- U.S. Citizenship is required for this position.
Location/Travel Requirements:
- Full-time on-site support in secure government facilities (SAPF/SCIF), with potential for limited hybrid work if approved by the customer.
- Travel approximately 15–20% within the continental United States.
- Potential for OCONUS travel depending on mission requirements.
